What is the Caribbean Premier League?

The Caribbean Premier League is the region’s top professional T20 cricket league, featuring stars from all across the world, as well as some of the very best domestic players. There are 7 franchises that make up the competition, dotted all around the Caribbean.

As it is the T20 format, it features shorter matches, typically lasting around 3 hours. This means thrilling action, with batters looking to get as many 6s as possible, and bowlers needing to be even more clinical in their 4 overs.

CPL 2026 dates, venues and format

The CPL runs from 7 August to 20 September across 8 venues. As a T20 competition, this is a much shorter season than many longer forms of the game, such as in the County Championship. Here are the key bits of information to know about the 2026 CPL:

  • Venues: 8 cricket grounds, including:

  • Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Saint George, Antigua and Barbuda

  • Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados (Playoff final venue)

  • Providence Stadium, Providence, Guyana

  • Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica

  • Warner Park Sporting Complex, Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis

  • Daren Sammy Cricket Ground, Gros Islet, St Lucia

  • Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago

  • Arnos Vale Stadium, Arnos Vale, St Vincent and the Grenadines (Opening Game)

How the CPL 2026 group stage and playoffs work

The competition is split into 2 separate sections: the group stage and the playoffs. The teams that finish in first and second will progress directly to Qualifier 1, where they will face each other. Third- and fourth-place teams face each other in the Eliminator.

The winner of Qualifier 1 progresses straight to the Final, while the loser faces the winner of the Eliminator in Qualifier 2. The winner of that game progresses to the Final, where the overall winner will be decided.

Teams competing in the CPL 2026

For the first time in the CPL’s history, there will be 7 franchise cricket teams playing in the 2026 edition. Here’s a short team preview for each side based on our wider CPL 2026 predictions:

Trinbago Knight Riders: Stake front-of-shirt partners the Knight Riders are defending champions. They defied the odds to win last year after having to come through the Eliminator. They will be a strong side again in 2026 and top many people’s CPL predictions.

Antigua & Barbuda Falcons: Moeen Ali joins the Falcons as captain in 2026. His years of experience as a top all-rounder will be a great asset to a side looking for its first CPL title.

Barbados Tridents: Two-time champions Barbados Tridents will be keen to get off to a strong start under their new name. Last year, as the Royals, they finished rock bottom with only two wins.

Guyana Amazon Warriors: With Imran Tahir looking like he might play into his 50s, the Warriors have a talisman. He may be able to take them one step better than their runner-up finish in 2025.

Jamaica Kingsmen: It’s a season of unknowns with the Kingsmen. They are experiencing their first season in the competition and could be dark horse picks to do well.

St Kitts & Nevis Patriots: Missing out on the Eliminator would have stung for the Patriots. Advancing past the group stage will be their main aim this year.

Saint Lucia Kings: They topped the table in 2025, yet still fell at the Qualifier 2 hurdle. Building on that and making it to the final would be seen as a huge success.

Caribbean Premier League 2026 betting odds at Stake

T20 cricket is a fast-paced and often unpredictable sport, but we’ve picked out a couple of CPL cricket market picks and odds for you to keep an eye on.

Outright winner odds

The Knight Riders and the Warriors feature heavily in the early T20 predictions, given that both were the finalists last year. Also, Trinbago hold the record for the most championships and an exceptional batting lineup. The Warriors, however, look like they may just edge it this year and would be value bets in the outright odds.

Top run scorer and top wicket taker odds

Two of the most popular bets in cricket are the top run scorer and top wicket taker markets. There are a number of names who will be up for either accolade. For example, Rovman Powell for runs and Andre Russell or Roston Chase for top bowler.

Cricket bet types explained: match winner, top batter and total runs

There are some cricket bet types and T20-specific bets you should know, including:

  • Match winner (including Super Over): This is a standard moneyline bet on the winner of one fixture, but includes the result after the Super Over. The Super Over is used to determine the winner of a tied game, like a penalty shootout in soccer.

  • Top batsman/bowler: This is a prop bet, which can be used on individual fixtures or in futures betting. You predict which player will score the most runs or take the most wickets from the bowling attack.

  • Total runs and 6s: You can place over/under bets on runs and 6s. These are predictions of whether you think there will be more or less than a set number.

  • Methods: Method markets in T20 cricket are where you stake on how a batsman will be dismissed from the game - bowled, run-out, etc.
